Help and support for new recruitment businesses

Success in a recruitment business means being able to make good decisions quickly - neither a client nor a candidate will wait around until all the choices have been weighed up, they will simply move on to the next agency who comes up with faster results!

Who are our mentors?

Working with the RITE team on the RITE Start-Up Service, our mentors have already set up and run successful recruitment businesses – making mistakes along the way, but learning from them – and gone on to establish a presence within the industry. Working as a volunteer mentor provides these achievers the opportunity to give something back to the industry, whilst at the same time helping to raise our industry’s standards.

What do they do?

Put simply, the provision of information! A RITE mentor provides our Start-Up clients with a wealth of practical support, enabling them to draw on hard-earned knowledge, proven talent, and tricks of the trade. In particular, they help with identifying strengths, skills and knowledge, then advising how to put everything together, so that it works in real terms.

Without exception, our mentors have passion, skill, effort and direction in abundance - and they want to share them with newcomers to our industry!

Don't just take our word for it...

"Working as a mentor has reminded me of what being in this industry is about - enabling people to develop, building on strengths and, above all, seeing results of their hard work. My objective with my 'mentee' is to give her the direction to build her business and how to profile herself to increase her confidence. I feel sure that she will achieve her dream."

- Janette Whithey, Quay People

"RITE is offering unbiased and honest advice to new agencies, drawn from a wealth of experience. What new recruiter wouldn't want that kind of support?"

- David Balfour, MD of GBN Associates Ltd

“ ‘In the kingdom of the blind the one eyed man is king' is the most apt saying when it comes to mentoring. If you have been running a business successfully for some years, or even decades, you do not realize how much you know! I believe 60% of entrepreneurs starting up in recruitment do not have recruitment industry experience, so our knowledge is invaluable. Imagine trying to build a car from parts if you had never held a spanner before - any help you received would be invaluable, particularly initially when you were trying to decide where to start!

I believe Denise Walker is either a genius or lunatic, and they are possibly not exclusive, for implementing such a brilliant idea as industry specific mentoring, and the same goes for Gareth Osborne who came up with the idea initially.

I have to say, as one of the first London mentors, that the duties have not been onerous and meetings are always conducted in the local hostelry. There have been a couple of short phone calls to me to check some basic points and I have had a consultant in my office for half a day to pick up pointers and learn some of our processes. It's great to see them getting their first placings and doing well.

Try it for yourself, particularly in a different sector to your own!”

- Lyn Cecil, MD, Secretaries Plus

“Mentoring is proving to be a positive two way street - whilst giving the "Mentee" the benefit of our own good/bad experience(s), it is a valuable mechanism for challenging and refreshing one's own views, processes and practices. It is surprising how we forget what we have learned over the

years!”

- Brian Stahelin, Stafflex Ltd

"Since starting my business 20 years ago I have been fortunate enough to have a network of REC mentors to help me run my business, which I couldn't have done nearly as successfully without their free help.

They have made my work easier, opened up new horizons, inspired me to greater things and listened to my frustrations but even more, made what was initially a 1 branch owner feel a part of a much bigger and successful industry - (9 branches today).

I am really delighted to be part of the RITE mentor team, working with the "mentees" from different sectors.  It is a real buzz to share my experiences and often hear good ideas from them too.   It can only be rewarding to ensure that new people coming into recruitment quickly develop into industry "professionals" who we can all be proud of and others can aspire to follow. Be a mentor and be inspired too!!"

- Rosalind Payne FREC - CEO - Personnel & Care Bank
