Just 9 months following the launch of the Recruitment Industry Taskforce for Enterprise (RITE), Executive Director, Denise Walker, is reporting major successes amongst her clients.
The RITE Start-Up Service is a paid for service, providing a complete support package, tailor-made for individual business needs. It is the first industry-specific enterprise support service in the UK, lasts for up to 3 years and includes support from a select team of mentors and industry experts, a whole host of REC products and services, such as REC membership and training; and ongoing development and support.
According to Denise, the reason this works is “Because everyone involved with it has first hand experience and knowledge of the recruitment industry and, having run very successful and profitable businesses have made mistakes and as well. So not only can we pass on practical ways of ensuring good working practises that bring in great results, also help our clients avoid the pitfalls that could potentially trip them up”.
Case study
Rory White, Flow Caritas Ltd
Rory has launched Flow Caritas, a London-based charity recruitment agency, 8 months before signing up to the RITE Start-Up Service in May this year.
Rory had previously owned another successful recruitment business, which had brought both positive and negative experiences (some extreme!) and he was keen to ensure that this new business was run on a more even keel. His aims, amongst others, were to grow the business, based on quality service and great staff, who were motivated and quality-driven. He also wanted to enjoy it!
With the help of support from RITE, Rory is already well on the way to achieving these goals. In particular, he found the ongoing support of his mentor, Yvonne Jacobs of London specialist recruiters, Jacobs Massey Ltd, particularly useful. “And the REC’s Start-Up and Run Your Own Recruitment Agency Course, run by Romney Rawes, a recruitment legend in my opinion, was a catalyst for me, making everything fall into place!”.
Yvonne Jacobs of Jacobs Massey Ltd is a RITE mentor, assigned to Rory. She says: It is incredibly rewarding working with such a positive individual like Rory. I became a mentor because I wanted to help support and develop the continued growth and professionalism of our industry. Rory has fantastic ideas and the motivation and enthusiasm to achieve his goals. He will succeed because he embraces all the guidance and advice on offer, then puts it into practice.
Rory is now much more selective with clients, choosing only to work with quality clients, “not just anyone”. This means that his team has a higher chance of filling the jobs he works on and, rather than filling a low percentage of a large number of vacancies, he is now being a lot more productive and fills the majority of the jobs he accepts. This in turn gives him confidence in the true value of his company’s service to clients, which means he is able to positively discuss rates with clients, knowing he is worth the fees. “What’s great is that this has not had a detrimental effect on clients, in fact the opposite has happened!”
Rory is also learning how to develop his own staff. “RITE has opened my eyes to the value of taking the time to recruit and develop the right people, using core competencies at each stage, from recruitment, including staff job descriptions to appraisals. This has been made easy, because of the fact that I can use the RITE Toolkit as part of my package, so that all the documentation is ready made for me to use. My staff have never been so motivated and are very excited about all the positive changes we have implemented. In fact, my consultant is thriving and has just broken her record on sales in one month. And my newly-recruited administrator is doing great as well.”
Rory is very confident that he will achieve his goal to make his a “fantastic, quality business. I now know how to achieve this and I feel positive and inspired.”
